Removing wallpaper is truly a terrible job. People who willingly put it up should beaten, or at least publicly shamed by having wall paper glued to their body.

Our kitchen and bathroom remodels both called for getting rid of the wallpaper. I think there were three different papers in the kitchen. Thankfully, I paid somebody else to do all the work. There’s still wallpaper in the master bath (and carpet too, not my choice) that needs to go.

Aat least the drywall doesn't look badly damaged under it.

Do you have a steamer of some kind?

This one of those jobs that while there’s no special magic involved, it is worth paying someone else to do.

I had to do that once. Found a wonderful product that included a round pokey thing that put holes all in the paper and a spray that dissolved the glue. Just wiped it away with a sponge after letting it sit the allocated time. It was a while ago and was probably pulled from the market due to environmental reasons. Sure I lost two fingers because I forgot gloves. But I think we can all agree it was worth it.

Ah yes. The 80s. “Fuck primer, just lick and stick it ”, they says.
My parents had to remove > 3000sqft of this, and none of it came off nicely.
I helped.

Unless that glue is from the middle of the century you have nothing to complain about. It might seem like you do, you do not.

Carpet I’m the bathroom is truly a sign of cluelessness. Imagine what lurks at the bottom of the carpet?

Haha stereotypes exist for a reason. I worked for a contractor back in the day. I went to home depot with him and got 5 shovels, and 5 bucket s and 3 Mexicans so we could dig out a basement.

Its not but there are some things I have to fill and sand.

Exactly. But it was there when we moved in and we just haven't gotten around to getting rid of it. Both the master closets are in the bathroom, and they are carpeted as well. I suppose the carpet should be removed from there as well and any bathroom flooring continued into that space.

My guest room is effectively veneer plaster at this point. The previous owners stripped wallpaper 30 years ago, didn’t repair any of the damage or even remove all the dried glue, and just papered over it again. There was barely a square foot of wall that wasn’t trashed.

Guessed as much. No doubt awful stuff that is impossible to deal with. The really old glue , easier to knock the house down since you’d be pulling it down attempting to remove wallpaper. I kid you not it became structural and integral with something like a 200 year half life.

I wouldn't mind the closets having carpet, but the bathroom is nasty. Imagine praying to the porcelain gods and missing. Gross.

O man, we were like 1/4 of the way there and I offer to my wife to just tear down the sheetrock and redo it. She said I was being dumb. I disagree.

We already had a toilet overflow that required cleaning and pad replacement.

Yea...the cold water in my 2nd flr bathroom was leaking, (into the sink) same with the shower. The whole thing should really get replumbed
